Weekend Wine: Argento Malbec
Argento Malbec Mendoza, Argentina 2009, $13: Wine goes interactive: The new vintage of Argento Malbec comes with a “Cellar Key” neck tag with a code on it that can be scanned with any smartphone QR code reader to access instantly a winery video, wine reviews, background on Argento’s winemaker and recipes to pair with the wine. The new vintage is an intensely flavored fruit compote of black plums, blackberries, spice, chocolate and vanilla, framed with velvet tannins. Argento is a newer winery, founded in 1998 with input from globetrotting wine consultant Nick Goldschmidt and now guided by Argentine winemaker Sebastian San Martin. The wine is widely available at supermarkets and independent stores.
